Whether you’re a college student looking to demolish the final exam or a space buff seeking to deepen your understanding of the cosmos, Study by App: Introduction to Astronomy and Astrophysics will provide you with all the tools you need to cultivate a robust understanding of how the universe works.

This comprehensive application is engineered to serve as a fully-realized course in the fundamentals of astronomy, and its pacing closely follows the curriculum of a typical Astronomy 101 college course.  It is designed to engage constructively with a variety of learning styles and, to that end, includes over four hours of in-depth audio lectures, over five hundred flashcards, thought-provoking comprehension questions for each chapter, and a variety of detailed diagrams—all brought to life with vibrant images taken straight from the world’s most cutting-edge research telescopes.

Material covered includes:

- Navigating the night sky with celestial coordinates
- Constellations, asterisms, and the zodiac
- History of astronomy
- Kepler’s laws
- Einstein and the theory of relativity
- Properties of light
- Quantum mechanics
- Blackbody radiation and Kirchhoffs laws
- How a telescope works
- Spectroscopy
- The structure of the Sun
- Violent solar phenomena
- Planetary science
- Pluto’s demotion
- The possibility of extraterrestrial life within the Solar System
- The Hertzsprung-Russell diagram
- Nuclear fusion within stars
- Stellar evolution and death
- White dwarfs, neutron stars, and black holes
- Galactic morphological classification
- Starburst galaxies
- Quasars, Seyferts, and other active galaxies
- Dark matter
- The Big Bang and the expansion of space
- Dark energy
- How the universe will end
- And much more…

All concepts discussed are informed by the very latest in academic research.  Blazars, phantom energy, primordial inflation, antimatter-production supernovae, and other topics only recently grasped by the scientific community are all well-integrated into the curriculum.  Periodic updates to the application can also be expected as the dynamic field of astrophysics continues to unfold.

With Study by App: Introduction to Astronomy and Astrophysics, you can master the core principles of modern observational astronomy at your own pace while on-the-go through an instructional system specifically geared towards technology-based learners.

This application was developed by Brendan T. Conuel. Brendan is a professional writer and award-winning instructor of physics.  His first paper, “The CHilean Automatic Supernova sEarch (CHASE),” appeared in 2009 in the physics research journal AIP Conference Proceedings. Conuel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Physics, Astronomy, and Religion from Wesleyan University.  He remains active in astrophysical research, and recently celebrated the discovery of his fourth supernova.
